Elizabethtown

July 31st, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV

I was a tad hungover yesterday (see below) so stayed in last night with a DVD - Elizabethtown, which is the latest Cameron Crowe film.
I’d read some terrible reviews of this film, saying it was over-long and boring, but I liked it. I must admit having Kirsten Dunst in the film definitely helped (she seems [...]

Ollie’s on a Saturday night

July 31st, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Belfast, Friends

I was out for the first time in more than a month on Saturday night - it was Paul (Jill’s boyfriend)’s birthday. We started off in the Potthouse bar before heading over to Ollie’s at the Merchant Hotel - I’d been there before but only on a Thursday when it was pretty dead (i.e. there [...]

Nesquik straws - I wanna try em!

July 31st, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Food and Drink

Take a look at these! Nesquik Magic Straws are plastic straws filled with little balls which flavour milk as you suck through them. If that makes sense. I am intrigued by the idea, so had a little look around town yesterday trying to find them. But no joy.
I like flavoured milk (chocolate only though, strawberry [...]

A big street shoot

July 31st, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Belfast, Work

I had quite a big shoot on Tuesday, where we took a camera crane (above) out and set it up outside the Grand Opera House, which I’m making some films about for a gala opening in October. Basically it’s a 20 foot arm with a camera on the end which can give you great sweeping [...]

A weekend in church in Portrush

July 31st, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Work

Well I’ve a bit of catching up to since I haven’t posted for a while. The weekend before last, I had a trip up to Portrush (that’s the beach there above) as I was asked to produce a Morning Service outside broadcast for Radio Ulster. Portrush is about 90 minutes away, and because you have [...]

Closing streets, removing scaffolding and banners= long week at work

July 22nd, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Belfast, Work

This is the Grand Opera House in Belfast, which is currently closed for refurbishment. In October, the BBC in Northern Ireland will be filming a gala concert to celebrate the re-opening, and at the moment I’m making some archive based films which will be included.
Each of the films is going to start with actors in [...]

A sneak peak at new style McDonald’s

July 22nd, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Food and Drink, McDonald's

I used to work at McDonald’s - I was a manager there for three years or so while I was at uni, and really enjoyed it. But McDonald’s is having to go through a lot of changes at the moment. One thing that they have been behind the times with is changing the design of [...]

Scorchio!

July 22nd, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Belfast

Well for a change here this week it’s been roasting! Usually it seems to rain every single day in Belfast, but this week it’s been really hot - apparently it was around 30 degrees on Wednesday. So it’s been great, long lunches sitting outside down at the City Hall in Belfast (pictured above). Let’s hope [...]

Superman Returns - it’s brilliant!

July 18th, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV

Wow! I just got in from seeing Superman Returns. It is brilliant! If you haven’t seen it yet, go now - I think it’s well worth seeing while it’s still at the cinema. It was great though - I really enjoyed it (and kept getting excited every time he started flying). Bam!

iTrips to be made legal!

July 16th, 2006  |  by Simon  |  published in Apple, Music, Technology

I wrote a while ago about how ridiculous it was that you can’t use iTrips and the like legally in the UK. Basically they are a FM transmitter that you plug in to your iPod. You can then listen to your iPod through any radio once you’ve tuned it into the same frequency.
My mate Rob [...]
