BBC iPlayer downloads now available for Macs

December 18th, 2008  |  Published in Apple, Technology, Web/Tech  |  3 Comments

Mac users have been able to stream video from the BBC’s iPlayer service for a while now – nearly a year I think, but now you can download video as well, and keep it for 30 days before it expires. The BBC has launched a new version of the iPlayer desktop manager, which you can get here.

I’ve downloaded it out of curiosity, but will probably stick to using the iPlayer most on my TV through my Virgin Media box. It does drive me insane though that it takes about two minutes for the box to respond after pressing a button on my remote.

Download to your heart’s content!

I logged in w/ facebook on Firefox, and it worked for two seconds before it 'appeared' to log me out again. But then after manually refreshing the page, it showed me as logged in, and I'm now posting this comment.

If you want to try a particularly janky fix for this, why not add a js call to refresh the page automatically after logging someone in? It's dirty, but it seems like it would make it work in firefox.

  • @vinnybelfast it was good! I liked it, but not really scary like they'd make ya believe from the trailer! 07:50:27 AM March 15, 2010 from TweetDeck in reply to vinnybelfast
