An inconvenient truth

July 30th, 2008  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV

I saw An Inconvenient Truth this week. I’d been meaning to get round to watching it for absolutely ages, but finally sat down on Friday night and watched all 90 minutes of it. If you don’t know about it, it’s basically a film of a presentation that ex Vice President Al Gore has been giving [...]

My show starts tonight

July 25th, 2008  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV, Work

I’ve been a bit slow with posting ‘cos I’ve been up to my eyes getting my show ready for transmission tonight. Anyway, you can watch Laurence & Jackie’s Northern Exposure at 9pm on BBC One Northern Ireland. If you’re outside Northern Ireland in the UK, you can catch it on Channel 973 on Sky Digital or Channel [...]

We’ve finished filming!

July 13th, 2008  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV, Work

Hoorah! The week before last, we wrapped filming on “Laurence & Jackie’s Northern Exposure“. All six episodes are now in the can, and the first two are edited and ready to go. I’m going to be spending up to the end of August editing programmes 4 and 6, while another producer does 3 and 5.
I’m [...]

My new series

June 29th, 2008  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV, Work

So I’ve been sweating it out recently series producing a new six part series for BBC Northern Ireland. It’s called “Laurence & Jackie’s Northern Exposure” and starts transmitting at the end of July.
The idea behind it is that Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and his wife, Jackie, spend 48 hours in a different county in Northern Ireland every [...]

I’m going to SxSW! Are you?

February 28th, 2008  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV, Music, Travel, Work

I am going to South by Southwest in Austin, TX the week after next to film for a week for ATL TV, following bands from Northern Ireland as they do their thing out there. It’s basically the biggest music industry showcasing event / conference in the world! I am extremely excited, ‘cos it’s meant to [...]

The Lives of Others

February 26th, 2008  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV

I watched a great DVD at the weekend - The Lives of Others. It’s a German film, and is all about how the East German secret police - the Stasi - spied on lots of people during the time that East Germany was still under communist rule. The film follows a team of secret service people [...]

A mini trip to London

December 18th, 2007  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV, Work

After the Christmas bash, I also made it to White’s on Saturday night - it was a brilliant night and the first time I’d been in ages. I also met a nice lady, so communications continue on that front.
On Monday, the BBC announced its new guidelines for competitions, telephony and voting, so it was off [...]

BBC iPlayer now Mac compatible

December 14th, 2007  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV

At last! The BBC iPlayer now works on Macs - so you can stream a lot of TV programmes from the last seven days online on your Mac.
Downloading on Macs isn’t available, but streaming is fine with me! You have to live in the UK to use this service.

Trashy TV is good every now and then

December 13th, 2007  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV

I watched some Jerry Springer at the weekend. I have not watched it in AAAGGGEEESSSS and there was nothing else on, so I thought why not. There has been an interesting development in the show in that they now appear to have a not unattractive woman with a pole on the set at all times, [...]

Thoughts on Season 4 of The X-Factor

November 30th, 2007  |  by Simon  |  published in Film / TV, Uncategorized

I love The X-Factor - good, easy to watch, Saturday night entertainment. However up until last night I’d been pretty disappointed with this series - there was no-one I was really rooting for, only one person I definitely am not rooting for (his name begins with an ‘R’).
However last week, I thought two acts were [...]
